His Robes for Mine

“Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.”

-Ps 132:9

Back in the garden after Adam and Eve sinned and realized what they had done the first thing they try to do is cover themselves. They hastily make clothing out of fig leaves. God in his mercy gives them a change of clothes. Skins, instead of course leaves. His robes for mine as the hymn goes.

This imagery of new clothing is replete throughout scripture. Robes can signify our depravity or the righteousness we receive from Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 64:

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (64:6)

Zechariah 3:

“Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.’ (:3-4)

Try as we might, we cannot rid ourselves of these rags. We cannot make our rags clean or pass fig leaves off for skins. God himself must cause our iniquity to pass from us through the miraculous blood of the lamb.

Revelation 19:

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.” (7-9)

It is critical that we come to this wedding in the correct attire. Contrast these words in Revelation with the Jesus’s words in Matthew 22 in the parable of the wedding feast:

“And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” -Matthew 22:11-13

Beloveds, many are called, but few are chosen. (Matthew 22:14)

Is scripture telling us we must work for salvation? Be careful with the book of Revelation and the parables of Jesus. You need the entire counsel of God to unlock them. What saith the scripture?

“This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 54:17.

Beloveds, these are the true sayings of God.
