Overcoming

“Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” -1 John 5:5

Well done, faithful servant. You have labored a long time. Why not pause and reflect on the miracle of your salvation?

There are so many things you could be doing other than believing on Jesus. It seems like the distractions and cares of the world conspire to make sure that you never remember the Lord that bought you. This world is a test. There are so many ways that seem right, but only one that is. And so it is that being saved is the definition of overcoming the world according to the Bible. The victory is ours, but we must trust him. We have 66 books of promissory notes, but a check is just paper if we don’t redeem it.

The Lord is pure holiness. His standards are exacting. Yet he remembers that we are but flesh and reconciles our flawed nature to Himself. All glory belongs to God but if you are diligently seeking the Lord I will commend you, because I love you as I love Him.

(How different it is to read Revelation chapter 2 having the definition of overcoming laid out to us in 1 John 5?)

“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgement, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.” -Jeremiah 9:24

Well done, faithful servant.
