Sola Deo Gloria

“The LORD hath made all things for himself; yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.”

— Proverbs 16:4

2nd Peter 3:9-10 tells us, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

All things, even the seeming prosperity of the wicked ultimately serve the glory of God. The old world was not spared from judgement Peter tells us, but rather it was reserved for it. In Genesis 6 God gave the world one hundred and twenty years to repent through Noah’s preaching and labor on the ark. He is not slack concerning his promises, but patient for elect’s sake. If the salvation of the elect is a sovereign act of God for his glory, then so too is the swift and sudden destruction of the wicked. Proverbs 6:12-15 tells us that the calamity of the wicked shall come suddenly, “suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.”

Beloveds, keep a short account with God and take heed to your ways. There is a time when it is too late. “Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.” Psalm 32:6

“Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.”

— Proverbs 1:28-31
